Your safety comes first.
Are you somewhere safe?
- • Move yourself and any passengers away from traffic. Don't stand between your car and the road.
- • On a motorway, leave by the passenger side and wait behind the barrier, well away from the carriageway.
- • Switch on your hazard lights. At night, keep sidelights on and wear something bright if you can.
- • On a smart motorway with no hard shoulder, get to an emergency area if you can and call National Highways on 0300 123 5000.
- • If anyone is injured or in danger, or your car is stopped in a live lane, call 999 now.
