Question 1

What should I do first if I break down?

Accepted Answer

Get yourself and any passengers somewhere safe, away from traffic. On a motorway, leave by the passenger side and wait behind the barrier. If anyone is in danger, call 999. On a smart motorway, use an emergency area if you can and call National Highways on 0300 123 5000. Then send your request on BREAKO.

Question 2

Which services can I request?

Accepted Answer

Vehicle recovery and towing, accident recovery, battery jump starts, tyre changes, fuel delivery, wrong fuel drain, lockout help and mobile mechanic call-outs. Pick the closest match and describe the problem in the notes.

Question 3

Where does BREAKO operate?

Accepted Answer

Across the UK, wherever a verified provider covers your postcode area. If no one covers your area yet, you won't receive quotes and you won't be charged.

Question 4

Do I need a membership?

Accepted Answer

No. There's no subscription or annual fee. You only pay for the job you choose.

Question 5

Can I request help for someone else?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Enter the vehicle and its location, and put the driver's name and number in the notes so the provider can reach them.

Question 6

How is the price worked out?

Accepted Answer

Local providers see your request, including the service, your vehicle, where it is and, for a tow, where it's going and how far. Each sets their own price. You compare the quotes and accept the one you want.

Question 7

Does it cost anything to send a request?

Accepted Answer

No. Sending a request is free. You only pay when you accept a quote.

Question 8

How long until I get a quote?

Accepted Answer

It depends on how many providers are online near you. Quotes appear on your request page as they arrive, and you'll hear a chime if the page is open.

Question 9

What does a tyre quote include?

Accepted Answer

By default, providers quote to supply and fit a new tyre. If you only want your spare or space-saver fitted, tick that option when you make the request.

Question 10

Can I use a promo code?

Accepted Answer

Yes. After you accept a quote, enter the code on your booking page before paying. The discount comes off the price you pay.

Question 11

How do I pay?

Accepted Answer

By debit or credit card, through SumUp's secure card form on your booking page. BREAKO never sees your full card number.

Question 12

When is the provider booked?

Accepted Answer

As soon as your payment goes through. The provider who sent the quote is then assigned and can set off.

Question 13

Can I cancel?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Before paying, you can cancel at any time for free. After paying, you can cancel from your booking page for a full refund until the provider is on the way. After that, contact support.

Question 14

How long do refunds take?

Accepted Answer

Refunds go back to the card you paid with. Most banks show them within 3 to 10 working days.

Question 15

What if something goes wrong with the job?

Open a dispute from your booking page within 30 days of booking and tell us what happened. We'll review the booking, messages and photos, and agree a fair outcome with both sides, which can include a refund.

Question 16

Can I see where my provider is?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Once they're on the way you'll see them on a map, with the distance and an arrival time based on live traffic.

Question 17

How do I contact my provider?

Accepted Answer

Use the chat on your booking page. Your provider can also call the mobile number on your account.

Accepted Answer

Every provider uploads their vehicle registration document and proof of insurance, and our team checks them before they can quote. You'll also see ratings from other customers.

Accepted Answer

Yes. Once the job is complete you can rate your provider and leave a comment to help other drivers.
